NEW!! Ver. 2 - "Guide to the Future: A Strategic Roadmap to Achieving Meaningful Use Objectives and Selecting an Integrated Electronic Dental Record (EDR)/Electronic Health Record (EHR) System to Improve Oral Health Access and Outcomes" NNOHA developed this white paper to present a strategic roadmap for achieving Meaningful Use for oral health and to provide critical steps that need to be taken to implement an Electronic Health Record (EHR) system that fully integrates Electronic Dental Records (EDR). This white paper will help oral health providers, staff, and patients understand the benefits of Meaningful Use incentives and serve as a guide to selecting an Electronic Dental and Health Record system.

The NNOHA EDR/EHR selection tool is a multistep process that will guide members and other interested stakeholders in evaluating and selecting an EDR/EHR for oral health programs and assist dentists, or eligible professionals (EP), in determining eligibility for the Medicare and Medicaid EHR incentive programs.
· STEP 1 - Eligible Provider Assessment: The NNOHA selection tool starts with guiding the dentist through a series of questions to determine eligibility for EDR/EHR incentive payments and financial impact.
· STEP 2 - Vendor Selection Spreadsheet: The guide includes key criteria to identify which EDR/EHR systems can achieve interoperability between EDR and EHR systems, meet national Meaningful Use objectives and are capable of reporting NNOHA's proposed clinical quality measures for oral health.

o Diagnostic Codes in Health Center/Safety-Net Oral Health Programs: Lessons Learned from Early Adopters – Based on the recommendations from NNOHA's discussion on diagnostic codes in 2011, NNOHA, in partnership with the National Association of Community Health Centers (NACHC) and the DentaQuest Institute, conducted an environmental scan to assess the knowledge base and current scope of usage of diagnostic codes in June 2012. This report highlights findings of the scan. (July 2012)

The Association of State and Territorial Dental Directors (ASTDD) recently partnered with the National Maternal and Child Oral Health Policy Center (NOHPC) to develop a policy brief that looks at the implications of the Affordable Care Act (ACA) dental provisions and the specific opportunities to address the oral health of children with special health care needs (CSHCN). The report,Opportunities in Health Care Reform: Addressing the Oral Health of Children with Special Health Care Needs, addresses insurance reform provisions such as the essential benefits package and suggests how the package can be made responsive to the special dental needs of CSHCN. The brief also suggests how ACA infrastructure improvements can improve access to care for CSHCN.
